Are We Living Martin Luther King's Dream or His Nightmare

Today is the birthdate of Martin Luther King Jr. There couldn't be a better time to discuss Dr. King and his dream.

Martin Luther King spoke of equality, unity, freedom and justice during a turbulent time in America. Before Black Entertainment Television, before Oprah Winfrey became a billionaire, before Jesse Jackson first ran for The Democratic Nomination in 1984 and now Barack Obama.

However, with racism still prevalent in America as reflected in Jena, Louisiana where three white students hung nooses from a tree at Jena High School after a black student asked permission from a school administrator to sit under a tree we ask the question;

Are we Living Martin Luther King's Dream or His Nightmare?

The turnout for Last nights show topic titled “Are we living Martin Luther King’s Dream or his Nightmare?” was a success! We had so many listeners’ calling in that we were unable to pick all the calls up due to our phone lines being maxed out . I want to thank all of the Lip Service Radio hosts for pulling their weight in the preparation of planning for the show and for doing their part hosting during the show. I appreciate each and every one of my team members and without us being a solid TEAM and remaining on the same page the show would not have been as successful as it was. THANK YOU!!

After the show aired we received many thanks for having such a mature and needed topic to discuss. The topic not only opened the eyes for many but confirmed existing beliefs of living in today’s times as well. Although we have come a long way since Dr. King was taken from us, I believe there is room for continued improvement but overall I do see that we are living his dream. I myself not only being a woman but a minority woman at that was able to attend college, obtain a degree and choose a career within corporate America holding influential positions. Did I need to work harder than my white colleagues? Absolutely, but I was offered the same opportunities.

I live in a suburban area where my neighbors are of all colors, race & ethnic backgrounds and all of them are successful having been able to attain economic independence. That fact alone echoes Martin Luther Kings dream. Does racism still exist? I believe so. Is there room for improvement? Yes, indeed. Have we come a long way? Absolutely!

Thank you all for supporting Lip Service Radio! We appreciate your calls and taking the time to listen to our show.

Because many of our listeners have expressed that last nights segment was extrememly educational I am posting the web address where you all can find the William Lynch Speech.

William Lynch, a White slave owner, reportedly made the speech on the banks of the James River in 1712. The following paragraph was taken directly from William's speech.

"Gentlemen, you know what your problems are: I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them. In my bag here, I have a fool proof method for controlling your Black slaves. I guarantee everyone of you that if installed correctly it will control the slaves for at least 300hundred years. My method is simple. Any member of your family or your oversee r can use it."
